How to add page numbers
- Drop your PDF into the box above.
- Pick a position (six corners and centers), a format, a start number, font size and color.
- Optionally skip the first page so a cover sheet stays clean.
- Click Add Page Numbers and download the finished document.
Formatting options
- 1 — plain number, the most common choice for reports.
- Page 1 — explicit, good for handouts.
- 1 / N — "page X of Y", ideal for contracts and printed packets.
- - 1 - — classic book and thesis style.
The start number matters when your file is part of a larger document: numbering this chapter from 42 keeps the whole set consistent.
Frequently asked questions
Will the numbers cover my content?
Numbers are placed in the page margin with a small inset, so they sit outside the printable area of typical documents. If your content runs to the very edge, choose a different corner.
Are the numbers permanent?
Yes — they are drawn into the page content itself, so they print and display everywhere, unlike page numbers offered by some viewers that only exist on screen.
Can I number only a page range?
Use Skip first page for the common "no number on the cover" case. Selective ranges are on the roadmap; for now, split the document with the Split PDF tool, number the part you need, and merge again.
